Area Homeless Population

• On average, both Wausau & DC Everest School Districts have over 120 students considered homeless in their respective districts.

• It is estimated that the City of Wausau has 300-400 homeless people with that number rising rapidly.

• The Wausau Warming Center served 301 unduplicated guests in 2023 and many nights had to turn people away due to maximum capacity.

• 16% of those served at the Wausau Warming Center are employed.

• Financial Crisis

  • job loss, car problems, illness, divorce, abandonment.

• Psychological or physical illness.

• Trauma - PTSD, physical or sexual abuse.
